St. Anselm
Doctor of the Church Archbishop of Canterbury; 1109. "Have you found, my soul, what you were seeking? You were seeking God, and you found him to be that which is the highest of all, than which a better can not be thought; you found him to be life itself, light, wisdom, goodness, eternal blessedness and blessed eternity. You are wholly present everywhere and I do not see you. In you I move and have my being, and I can not come near to you. You are within me and around me, and I do not experience you with my senses. I pray, O God, that I may know you and love you, so that I may rejoice in you. Until then let my mind meditate on you...." (St. Anselm's Proslogion.)

St. John the Paranymphos and Mary the Mother of the Church
Read John 19:25-27. Today we commemorate the love of St. John for the Mother of our Lord who is mystically the Church (Revelation 12). In this love Christ instituted the leadership of His Church. At the Crucifixion the Church was born.

St. George the Martyr
Cappadocia; c 285. This is, of course, the subduer of the dragon. "Dear brothers, our joy in today's feast is hightened by our joy in the glory of Easter, just as the splendor of a precious jewel enhances the beauty of its gold setting. Let us not only admire the courage of this fighter in heaven's army, but follow his example. Let us be inspired to strive for the reward of heavenly glory, keeping in mind his example, so that we will not be swayed from our path, though the world seduce us with its smiles or tries to terrify us with its naked threats of trials and tribulations." (St. Peter Damian).
